REPAIRS OF YOUR STONED HILDA JEWELLERY
Stoned Hilda is a retailer. We are not jewelers. We cannot offer repairs of your Stoned Hilda Jewellery. In this case, we recommend taking your jewellery to a professional jeweler for the best advice.
ABOUT STONED HILDA JEWELLERY
1. Stoned Hilda jewellery is handmade and therefore will not be perfect like mass produced pieces. Each piece is beautiful and unique and we pride ourselves on finding pieces with character as such.
2. Some of our jewels will have small imperfections, qualities and characteristics due to them being handmade. This is normal for Gemstones.
Some imperfections may be: (although not limited to)
- Marks where silver has been joined
- Oxidization of silver in some areas
- Lines may not be perfect
- Stones will have inclusions within the stone or unevenness
- Stones will have cracks or may not be smooth and have crack like appearances
- Silver may not be smooth
CRACKING OF NATURAL GEMSTONES
Gemstones are natural and can rarely crack on occasion. Some reasons may be (although not limited to) are:
1. Physical contact. Dropping, banging or bumping
2. Extreme heat or cold
3. Wearing in water (swimming pools, lakes, rivers, ocean, showers)
Natural Gemstones are porous which can cause them to expand and retract.
We recommend that jewellery is to be taken off in such instances.
WEARING YOUR GEMSTONE JEWELLERY IN WATER
We do not recommend wearing your Stoned Hilda jewellery in water. All year, although in particular the warmer months of the year, it is very important to look after your precious gemstones. (Not limited to) Swimming in chlorinated pools, the salty water of the ocean, swimming in lakes, rivers or showering with them on, can all cause potential damage to your gemstones and can cause them to expand, retract, change colour, tarnish or fall out of their settings.
We recommend that jewellery is to be taken off in such instances.
CHEMICALS THAT CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO YOUR GEMSTONE JEWELLERY
We do not recommend wearing or having your Stoned Hilda gemstones come into contact with or around chemicals. Many chemicals can cause damage to natural gemstones. Spraying perfumes, tanning creams or lotions/creams and soaps can potentially cause your gemstone jewellery to expand, retract, change colour, tarnish, crack or fall out of their settings.
We do not recommend wearing your gemstone jewellery or your gemstone jewellery coming into contact with household chemicals. This would void your warranty immediately.
We recommend that jewellery is to be taken off in such instances.
WEARING YOUR GEMSTONE JEWELLERY DURING HEAVY WORK
We do not recommend wearing your Stoned Hilda jewellery whilst performing heavy work. This includes, (although not limited to)
1. Wearing around or whilst using heavy machinery
2. Carrying heavy items
We recommend that jewellery is to be taken off in such instances.
TARNISHING OF YOUR GEMSTONE JEWELLERY
Our first point of action is to recommend you visit your jeweler for their advice on the best practices to clean and/or keep your jewellery clean. They may also offer a professional cleaning service for your gemstone jewellery.
Sterling silver will tarnish. This is a natural occurrence. As all jewellery will. For best care, your gemstone jewellery should be kept in a dry, dark, cool place to protect it when not wearing it. If your gemstone has been in contact with any of the above water/chemicals and/or has tarnished, we suggest gently cleaning it with a soft cloth and a little cool water. Giving it a good gentle drying after washing, then polishing it with a silver cloth and popping it in a small snap-lock bag before storing it away.
925 STERLING SILVER & GENUINE GEMSTONES
All jewellery on our site is 925 Sterling Silver.
Our Gemstones are Genuine (where stated in the descriptions) to the best of our knowledge. Stoned Hilda do not personally mine the gemstones (we are retailers not manufacturers) Stoned Hilda have buyers who source our stones and to the best of our knowledge and from our buyers advice to us our gemstones are genuine. Stoned Hilda does not provide a Gemstone Certification. This can however be obtained (at the customers own cost) by a Qualified and Certified Gemologist.
WHY DOES STERLING SILVER TARNISH
Sterling silver tarnishing because of common and natural chemicals, like sulphur (found in air particles around cities/industrial areas), moisture (if you live in a more humid environment and your own skin's acidity level.
Contact with (although not limited to) moisturizers, perfume, hairspray, deodorant, and make-up can lead to tarnish, as these may contain abrasive chemicals that corrode the silver. Even wearing your jewelry when preparing sulphur-rich foods (although not limited to) such as eggs, fish, and onions, exposes it to sulphur and greatly increases the risk of tarnishing.
Silver metal does not react with oxygen but reacts with hydrogen sulphide gas in the air and forms a thin black layer of silver sulphide (Ag2S) on it. Therefore, silver jewellery tarnish due to the formation of a silver sulphide coating on their surfaces.
PERSPIRATION AND ACID IN SKIN CAN TARNISH GEMSTONE JEWELLERY
Our own natural perspiration with some more than others can have highly acidic skin properties. These can cause sterling silver to tarnish over time. In this case we recommend the above “Tarnishing Of Your Gemstone Jewellery” recommendations.
CLEANING GEMSTONE JEWELLERY
Our first point of action is to recommend you visit your jeweler for their advice
on the best practices to clean and/or keep your gemstone clean. They may also offer a professional cleaning service for your gemstone jewellery.
Gemstones will pick up dirt, grime and body oils over time. We advise using cool water with a very, very small amount of hand liquid soap, (only use soap to clean rarely) rubbing the stone gently with a soft cloth, rinsing in cool water and using a clean, dry soft cloth to gently wipe very dry.
ADJUSTABLE RINGS
Stoned Hilda offer a selection of adjustable rings. These can be a great idea if you wish to wear your ring on different fingers along with many other reasons. Whilst there are many positives to an adjustable ring, they must be carefully cared for with all above suggestions (although not limited to) along with gentle care with minimal movement of the band. Sterling silver adjustable rings can on occasion be soft and are more prone to snaping or breaking of the band. Usually it is best to set into place and not move the band very often. Please note: Stoned Hilda do not cover for general wear and tear or misuse of these items.
